10K training race is TOMORROW!
The 9th Annual Say No To Drugs 10K Holiday Classic is tomorrow - and it's raining. Pouring. but many of the AIDS Marathon Training Program folks are going to run it anyway - our scheduled run is for 6 miles, and the 10k is 6.2 miles - so it's a perfect fit!
PLUS we are helping raise money for a great cause...
AND we get to run the backlot of Universal Studios!!
(AND we get a shirt and medal!!)
here's driving directions:
http://www.saynotodrugsrace.org/racelocation.html
Free parking in the Curious George Parking Lot -
WE WILL MEET AT 630AM (I know, early!) at the plaza level in the Curious George Parking Lot - please be sure to be on time - we will have 30 minutes to check in and get in line (in the back somewhere!)
10:00 to 3:00 pm, on Saturday, December 12, 2009 at Runnergy:
Receive 15% off in-store purchases of $30 or more when you attend our on-site pre-registration at Runnergy.
Bring snacks and your water bottle like always, wear clothes that are waterproof - a light rainjacket with a hood (I bought one at Target for under $35), track pants that are waterproof, and be sure to bring a change of shoes and socks to keep in your car for after the race - I'm going to guess that our feet will be wet by the time we're done running!
We will plan to stay on same pace
Good Luck everyone - and I can't wait to get a group photo of all of us with our finishing medals!!!

12 miles under our belt
WOW - 12 miles... 3 hours 5 minutes... and it felt amazing to get to share time with the group and to complete such a feat!
coming up next week instead of the 6 mile maintenance run, I will be participating in the 9th annual Say No to Drugs Race holiday classic - a 10K which will be my first participation in a real race, and a chance to get to run in the backlot of Universal Studios!

The Los Angeles Say No To Drugs Race Holiday Classic originated in 1988 in Clearwater, Florida to call attention to the drug problem and to benefit drug awareness and education programs.
The Los Angeles race is now in its ninth year and has expanded yearly. Thousands of runners participate allowing us to contribute towards the education of children – teaching them the truth about drugs and what they do to the body and mind.
The Say No To Drugs Race is for all ages and ability levels. The race is organized and produced by Team Against Drugs – basically a small group of people being active about drug education and awareness in our community.
Last year there were over 2,000 participants. The race participants and spectators were sworn in as Drug-Free Marshals – this is a popular program with youth groups and police enforcement agencies, which helps educate and empower youth in the the fight against widespread drug use.
Proceeds collected go to our three beneficiaries including the Boys & Girls Club of Burbank, Drug-Free Marshals, and Friends of Narconon to benefit drug education and awareness programs.

We do regret to inform you that no pets are allowed on the Backlot. So please, keep Spot and Fluffy at home.
